Angel Eyes

She has angel eyes,
holding back the tears.
God knows when she cries,
she exposes all her fears.
Like a ship lost at sea,
awaiting the beacon call,
waves crash against her faith.
Will she see the light at all?
You would never know it, though.
Her smile is painted well.
But looking deep into those eyes,
a broken spirit does dwell.
Sometimes we play a role
to protect a broken heart,
painting on a social smile.
Truth is, we're torn apart.

There will come a day
when every storm will cease,
when faith grows from inside,
a core of inner peace.
When Christ shines through the eyes
once filled with tears,
when love showers all of us—
no more uncertain fears.

It's not easy being the one
to carry a painful smile,
holding on to uncertainty
and smiling all the while.
To be an oak in the storm,
those hurricanes inside,
the stoic that we've become.
Let faith be our guide.
