Well, I can still remember
when we were back in school.
We didn't worry about the future.
We didn't care about the rules.
Ditching class, a custom,
we hid at County Park.
Racing cars and radio
kept our attention till after dark.
It was you and I and anyone,
because names so often changed,
exploring love for the very first time,
believing God Himself had it arranged.
We were teens on the run,
just looking for our place,
never knowing what the day might bring.
Through the night we would race,
living for the moment.
We never count the cost.
We were young, running wild.
That's when innocence was lost.
Young in love and together,
memories that can't be erased.
Kissing your silk-soft skin,
a feeling I still taste.
Now we are much older,
put behind those childish ways.
Both got jobs and bills to pay.
Now life's the game we play.
I often think about you
since we went our separate ways.
Wonder if you think of me
in your memories of those days.
When we were teens on the run,
just looking for our way,
never knowing what the day might bring.
Through the night we would race,
living for the moment.
We never count the cost.
We were young, running wild.
That's when innocence was lost.
Young in love and together,
memories that can't be erased.
Kissing your silk-soft skin,
a feeling I still taste.
Things, they seem so different now.
Some twenty years have passed.
Love comes and goes—it's silly, yeah.
Nothing seems to last.
Funny, I remember things
we did so long ago.
If you ever needed anything,
I'd be there, don't you know?
'Cause we were teens on the run.
Father Time is who we'd chase,
never knowing what the day might bring,
and I still see your face.
Living for the moment,
we never count the cost.
We were young, running wild.
That's when innocence was lost.
Young in love and forever,
memories have their place.
Holding you in my arms,
the rush of your embrace.
Yeah, we were teens on the run,
just looking for our place,
never knowing what the day might bring.
Through the night we would race,
living for the moment.
We never count the cost.
We were young, running wild.
That's when innocence was lost.
Young in love and together,
memories that can't be erased.
Kissing your silk-soft skin,
a feeling I still taste.
